Myths and facts about LED lighting. 2/3

Here we are another week with news. This time we leave the second part of the myths and realities about the LEDs. You can read the first part of this article here.

Myth 6: LED luminaires with higher lumen/W ratio are better.

Fact: Not always. There are manufacturers that show a high lumen / W, such as 160 or even higher ratio, but these data are not real because they are values of the light output of a LED obtained under ideal conditions in a laboratory and not in a fixture under real conditions operation. The difference between real value and laboratory value may involve variations of up to 40%. Everything that glitters is not gold.

Myth 7: LEDs have problems to light quickly.

Fact: LEDs are capable of reaching its maximum emission almost instantaneously ignited and they can be turned off quickly without shortening its useful life.

Also, being embedded systems, it is not necessary to replace the lamps, reducing maintenance and installation costs.

Myth 8: LED luminaires can not operate in extremely cold environments.

Fact: Due to low temperatures, LED lights tend to be more efficient and extend its lifespan.

Myth 9: LEDs have problems with very frequent lit.

Fact: Because the diodes reach instantly a maximum light output, can withstand frequent on and off without being damage or shortening its lifespan.

Myth 10: The light emitted by LED can not be dimmable or controlled.

Fact: The electronic luminaires with LED technology can be used adjustable drivers compatible with many control systems. They can be connected to timers, light and motion sensors and adapt to different weather conditions and visibility.
